We use 6 walking beams on our Walk ‘n’ Roll WR90 Oscillator 90” packer/roller and they only use 3 walking beams on their 90” Profile Packer.

The Walk ‘n’ Roll packer/roller uses individual walking beams. The advantage of individual walking beams is very little “bridging” effect between the tires. The individual walking beams seek out soft spots that may exist providing uniform compaction with no roll over of soft spots The BIG advantage of individual walking beams is maximum kneading action that will provide 100% compaction, this is not possible with multiple spindle walking beams.

The Walk 'n' Roll packer/roller doesn't require any hydraulics to attach it to a motor graders rear ripper. If you don't have a rear ripper you only need one hydraulic cylinder to attach it to our Heavy Duty Lift Assembly. In contrast, the Profile Packer is a hydraulic nightmare. It has a hydraulic cylinder for the 24” side-shift and 3 more cylinders to control the 3 Walking Beams.

If your grader is not equipped with a rear ripper you need a a lift assembly. The PARALLEL LIFT, Walk 'n' Roll lift assembly attaches to the grader like a factory rear ripper. The Quick-Attach and the Accumulator are standard equipment. When you put hydraulic down pressure on the packer all of the tires make contact with the road surface at the same time. NOT SO with the Profile Packer, they use an A-FRAME lift assembly. The A-FRAME will cause undue stress on the first row of tires, shorten bearing, spindle and tire life. The compaction will vary and it will not be uniform. We believe the only reason they use the A-FRAME is it's a lot cheaper to build.
